I just got back from Mitzi Wilner's 90th birthday party. I wrote about Mitzi a few days ago--you can scroll down a bit to omer day 35, or click here.It was such a warm, joyful event--you could feel all the love circulating in the room, emanating from the family and friends surrounding her. It was an honor to be included.

Curious how things run in the family. On "The Day of Compassion", the Divah's brother has a parallel experience. Not to tie this day to the secular nonsense of Mother's Day, yet another manufactured holiday, we got to celebrate with our version of Mitzi, Heddy Fingerman. Call it beshert, but by mistake a fax meant for one of our doctors ended up in Heddy's computer. FOr some reason, she called to tell us she had it, and rather than tear it up, the Divah's sister in law went to fetch it from her. It turns out that Heddy, who is either 79 or 80, is also a survivor, and lost her husband a few years ago. In good shape other than being somewhat housebound, how could you not be drawn to her? When she called to see how we were doing in post-op from a "proceedure", and mentioned that her daughter was sick and couldn't visit her this week or take her out for Mother's Day, of course she came to our house, picked up and taken home by various family members. Her presence made an otherwise formulaic afternoon as interesting and warm as the Mitzi celebration with Mitzi must have been -- and she brought home made rugallah to boot! Here, it was an honor to have her with us!
